FAQ

What are weapon mods in Gears of War: E-Day?
Attachments that tune weapon behavior — found in the campaign and used to customize loadouts in Horde Siege multiplayer.
Do weapon mods carry into multiplayer?
Yes — mods are part of Horde Siege loadout building, linking the campaign sandbox to the co-op mode.
Where do you find weapon mods in E-Day?
In the campaign — preview coverage describes them scattered through the multi-path combat zones and optional objectives.

E-Day’s biggest addition to the Gears sandbox is weapon mods — the first real attachment system in the series. It connects the campaign to Horde Siege and gives the arsenal a customization layer it has never had.

Weapon mods are attachments that change how a gun behaves — the mod menu visible in the official multiplayer developer overview shows a slot-based UI for tuning weapons. Specific mod effects have not been fully detailed, but the system is confirmed to cover the classic attachment space: handling, magazine, damage profile and similar behaviors.

Where do you find mods?

  • Campaign — mods are found while playing through missions; the multi-path downtown arenas and optional objectives in the preview builds hide pickups off the main lane.
  • Horde Siege — mods plug into the 12-player PvE mode’s loadout system, where they combine with class builds.

That link is the point: campaign exploration feeds your multiplayer arsenal, so playing the story first pays off in Horde Siege.

How do mods work in Horde Siege?

Loadouts in Horde Siege pair your class with a weapon setup — mods are the layer that lets two players running the same class still build differently. The beta showed class kits with distinct roles; mods are what tune your gun to that role. See the multiplayer progression guide for how unlocks flow.

What should you mod first?

Specific mod stats are still unconfirmed ahead of launch — this section fills in on October 6. Based on the sandbox, the safe early picks will be:

  • Lancer handling mods — the default rifle benefits most from stability/recoil tuning.
  • Gnasher capacity or reload — offsetting the 6-shell cut or speeding the per-shell load.
  • Sidearm utility — a tuned Snub is a free second weapon.

Full mod list and effects land here at launch. The confirmed weapons they apply to are in the weapon list.
