FAQ

What is Horde Siege in Gears of War: E-Day?
A 12-player PvE mode — three squads of four players cooperate across objective-based missions against escalating Locust waves, ending with an extraction.
What classes are in Horde Siege?
Four classes were shown in the official overview — each with distinct roles and kit abilities. Class names/details are documented in this guide as officially revealed.
How many Horde Siege maps are there?
Three launch maps were confirmed for Horde Siege in the official multiplayer overview.

Horde Siege is E-Day’s headline multiplayer mode — the biggest co-op offering in the series: 12 players, three squads of four, working through objective-based missions against escalating Locust waves. Here is everything confirmed from the official multiplayer overview and the August beta.

How does Horde Siege work?

The mode structures each match as a mission, not an endless arena — the official overview lays out three mission types by length:

Mission type Length Flavor
Blitz ~15–20 min Short objective strike
Siege ~20–40 min Standard multi-objective run
Horde ~60 min Classic 10-wave survival

Match flow across all three:

  • 12 players in three squads — each squad is a standard four-person fireteam running in parallel.
  • Kills earn energy — spend it at supply points on grenades, sentry turrets, razor discs and loadout swaps.
  • Supply drops — periodic airdrops bring extra gear into the fight.
  • Invasion events — a world-boss-style Locust event can hit mid-mission.
  • Extraction finale — missions end with a Raven evac rather than a wave count.

What maps are in Horde Siege?

Three maps are confirmed for launch. Golden Quarter was the map playable in the Open Beta; the other two join it at release.

How do classes and loadouts work?

Four classes pick up different jobs on the team — composition is the backbone of a 12-player run:

Class Role
Assault Frontline rifle play — push objectives and hold lanes
Breacher Close-range specialist — break entrenched Locust positions
Marksman Long-range overwatch — drop threats before they close
Medic Keeps squads alive — revives and sustain under pressure
  • Weapon mods tune your gun to your role — see the weapon mods guide.
  • Progression ties into your account — XP, ranks and unlocks are covered in the progression guide.

How is Horde Siege different from classic Horde?

Classic Gears Horde was 5 players holding a single position against 50 waves. Horde Siege is a mission: bigger team, real objectives, and an extraction ending. It is built for coordinated squad play rather than pure survival camping — closer to a raid-lite than the old wave ladder.

What rewards does Horde Siege give?

Matches feed account XP, rank progression and customization unlocks — the same economy as Versus. Beta testers carry rewards forward at launch (see the beta carry-over guide). For the PvP side of multiplayer, see the Versus modes and maps guide.
