FAQ

What enemies are in Gears of War: E-Day?
Confirmed so far: Locust Drones (including Longshot snipers and heavies), Wretches, and Corpsers — all spawning from Emergence Holes and scripted ruptures.
Are the Locust scarier in E-Day?
That is the design goal — E-Day frames the Locust as unknown horror rather than a familiar enemy, with ambushes, smoke tactics and ambush-first encounters.
What are Emergence Holes in E-Day?
E-holes are the ground ruptures Locust pour out of — systemic ones can be closed with frag grenades, while scripted ones are set-piece events.

The Locust Horde is the reason this game exists — the enemy that ended the world in a single night. In E-Day they are deliberately framed as an unknown horror: the squad has never seen them before, and neither (mechanically) have you. Here is every confirmed enemy type and how the new systems work.

What Locust enemies are confirmed in E-Day?

Enemy What it does Where seen
Locust Drone The backbone — cover-using, flanking infantry that adapt to your position Every encounter
Longshot Drone Sniper variant that pins lanes and punishes open movement Act 2 bridge fight
Heavy Locust Rocket-launcher troops that can one-shot careless players Legacy Bridge
Wretch Fast melee swarmer that climbs and drops from above Act 1–2
Corpser Massive spider-like Locust that bursts through the ground Octus Way preview

How do Emergence Holes work?

E-holes are the signature system: Locust tear through the ground mid-fight and pour out until you seal the breach. Two kinds exist in E-Day:

  • Systemic E-holes — gameplay events you control: throw a frag grenade into the rupture to close it before the wave snowballs.
  • Scripted ruptures — set-piece bursts (streets, floors, entire buildings) that drive the horror pacing and can’t be closed.

Ignoring a live E-hole is the classic way a manageable fight becomes a wipe — treat them as priority one. The Corpser and the E-hole system get a full breakdown in Corpser & Emergence Holes.

How are the Locust smarter in E-Day?

The deep-dive interviews emphasize that Drones are more tactical than the originals: they deliberately flank, dive for cover when hit, and use smoke grenades to blind you before rushing. Wretches climb vertical surfaces and drop on your position rather than charging across open ground. The AI changes are detailed in the Locust Drone guide.

Which enemies return versus which are new?

E-Day’s roster is built around the classic Locust first seen on Emergence Day — the creatures humanity met with zero intel. Larger threats like the Corpser anchor set-piece moments. More specialized variants (Boomers, Theron, Tickers) are unconfirmed for now — this page updates as they appear in footage or at launch.

Fighting the Horde in multiplayer

The Locust are also the enemy in Horde Siege — the 12-player PvE mode where three squads hold objectives against escalating waves. The same E-hole discipline applies: seal the spawns, manage the heavies, and never fight in the open.
