FAQ

Can I run Gears of War: E-Day without ray tracing?
No — a hardware ray tracing-capable GPU is a hard requirement. Cards without dedicated RT support are not supported.
How big is Gears of War: E-Day on PC?
The install requires about 130 GB of SSD space — a hard drive will not do, an SSD is required.
Does E-Day run on Steam Deck or Xbox Ally?
Yes — the game is officially optimized for handheld play on Steam Deck and Xbox Ally devices, with cross-platform saves.

Gears of War: E-Day is built on Unreal Engine 5, and the headline requirement is the one that trips people up: a hardware ray tracing GPU is mandatory. Here are the full spec tiers so you can check your rig before October 6.

What are the minimum PC specs for E-Day?

Gears of War: E-Day PC specifications — official store imagery (Xbox Game Studios)

Minimum targets the Medium preset at 1080p 60 fps (with upscaling). Even here, ray tracing hardware is non-negotiable.

Component Minimum Recommended Ultra

All tiers use upscaling (DLSS / FSR / TSR / XeSS) to hit their frame targets — the GPU floor is genuinely the RTX 2060/RX 6600 class.

Is 130 GB of SSD really required?

Yes — E-Day needs around 130 GB on an SSD, and an HDD is not supported. Storage figures listed on the store page have been reported between 115 and 130 GB across regions; plan for the larger number and check our preload and download size guide for install timing.

Will E-Day run well on a mid-range PC?

The Coalition has said it kept iterating on PC performance after the August multiplayer beta, and the recommended tier is mainstream hardware — an RTX 3060 Ti / RX 6700 XT class card with 16 GB of RAM. The jump only gets steep at Ultra, which wants a 12 GB VRAM card for native 4K.

Does E-Day work on Steam Deck and Xbox Ally?

Yes — the game is officially optimized for handhelds including Steam Deck and Xbox Ally / Ally X, with roaming saves and cross-platform play. Handheld users should still expect the lowest presets; the ray tracing requirement applies there too. Cross-save details are in our crossplay and cross-save guide.

What about consoles?

On Xbox Series X|S there is nothing to check — the game installs and runs out of the box on October 6, and 2-player split-screen co-op is console-only. New players should pair this with our beginner’s guide once they are in. PC players get the broader graphics options plus ultrawide and unlocked framerate support typical of Xbox first-party releases.
