Corpser & Emergence Holes in Gears of War: E-Day Explained

FAQ

How do you close Emergence Holes in E-Day?
Throw a frag grenade into the rupture — the grenade seals the E-hole and stops the spawns. Scripted ruptures (set-pieces like the Corpser's) can't be closed.
Is the Corpser in Gears of War: E-Day?
Yes — a Corpser bursts through the ground during the Act 2 Octus Way sequence shown in press previews, as a scripted set-piece encounter.
What's the difference between E-hole types?
Systemic E-holes are gameplay spawners you seal with grenades; scripted ruptures are scripted story events — buildings collapsing, streets tearing open — that happen at fixed moments.

E-Day’s biggest enemy isn’t a creature — it’s the ground itself. Emergence Holes are how the Locust arrive, and the Corpser is the largest confirmed thing that comes out of one. Here is how both systems work.

How do Emergence Holes work in E-Day?

E-holes are the Locust’s signature entrance, split into two types:

  • Systemic E-holes — gameplay spawners: a rupture opens mid-fight and Locust pour out until you act. Throw a frag grenade into the hole to seal it. Left alone, the stream snowballs a manageable fight into a wipe — closing them is always priority one.
  • Scripted ruptures — story beats: streets tearing open, building floors collapsing, the Corpser bursting through. They trigger at fixed moments, can’t be closed, and exist to drive the horror pacing.

What is the Corpser?

A massive Locust creature bursting from the ground — official trailer footage (Xbox Game Studios / The Coalition)

The Corpser is a massive spider-like Locust — one of the biggest creatures in the series — confirmed to appear in E-Day. In the Act 2 hands-on preview it bursts through the ground during the Octus Way station sequence, turning the arena into chaos as part of a scripted set-piece. Whether it is a full boss fight or a survival sequence is unconfirmed; the preview framed it as spectacle more than a HP-sponge fight.

What strategy beats E-hole pressure?

  1. Seal the spawn first. A live E-hole undoes any damage you’re doing to the wave.
  2. Save frags for holes. It is tempting to throw grenades at Drones — keep at least one for ruptures.
  3. Watch the ground. Rupture telegraphs (dust, cracking) tell you where to reposition before the hole opens under you.
  4. Never fight next to an open hole. Locust spawn on top of you; pull back and clear the wave at range.

Where do E-holes and Corpsers appear?

E-holes erupt all through the campaign — the first night of Act 1 is full of them as Kalona falls, and the Act 2 downtown and station fights use them as wave pressure. The Corpser is confirmed for the Octus Way sequence. For the rest of the enemy roster see the Locust Horde overview, and for the wave-defense take on E-holes in multiplayer, see the Horde Siege guide.
