FAQ

What weapons are in Gears of War: E-Day?
Confirmed: Prototype Lancer, Gnasher shotgun, Hammerburst, Breechshot, Snub pistol, frag grenades, and the Longshot on enemy snipers. More are expected at launch.
Does the Lancer have a chainsaw in E-Day?
Yes — the Mark 1 Prototype Lancer is the first appearance of the chainsaw bayonet in the timeline, and E-Day makes finding it a story beat.
Are there new weapons in E-Day?
The weapon mod system is the main addition — attachments that tune weapon behavior found in the campaign and used in Horde Siege loadouts.

E-Day’s arsenal is deliberately classic — this is the war that made these weapons iconic — rebuilt with modern handling. Everything below is confirmed in official footage or previews; the full launch roster lands here on October 6.

What weapons are confirmed in Gears of War: E-Day?

Weapon Type Notes
Prototype (Mark 1) Lancer Assault rifle Higher rate of fire than the later Mk 2; chainsaw bayonet debut — full guide
Gnasher Shotgun 6-shell capacity (down from 8), per-shell reload — full guide
Hammerburst Assault rifle Burst-fire Locust rifle, mid-range workhorse
Breechshot Locust rifle Lever-action; new single-shell reload mechanic
Snub pistol Sidearm The squad’s first pickup in Act 1
Frag grenades Throwable Also the tool for sealing E-holes
Longshot Sniper Confirmed in enemy hands (Drone snipers)

What’s new about the gunplay?

Three changes from the official deep dive reshape how every weapon feels:

  • Simulated ballistics — bullets have travel time and drop now, so ranged shots need a lead.
  • Weapon sway — handling weight makes sustained fire less laser-precise than older Gears.
  • Single-shell reloading — the Gnasher and Breechshot load round-by-round, so you can interrupt a reload to fire whatever is in the tube.

How do weapon mods work?

Weapon mods are found in the campaign — attachments that tune how a gun behaves (handling, capacity, damage profile). They feed directly into Horde Siege loadouts, where mod choices are part of your class build. The full system is covered in the weapon mods guide.

Which weapon should you main?

The Prototype Lancer is the safe all-rounder — deep magazine, high rate of fire, and the chainsaw for emergencies. The Gnasher rewards close-range aggression, and the Hammerburst owns mid-range lanes once you learn the burst rhythm. New players should start with our beginner’s guide for the full combat breakdown.
