FAQ

How many shells does the Gnasher hold in E-Day?
6 shells — reduced from 8 in previous games to balance the new per-shell reload.
Can you interrupt a Gnasher reload in E-Day?
Yes — the Gnasher (and Breechshot) load shell-by-shell, so you can cancel the reload mid-load and fire whatever is chambered.
How does Active Reload work in E-Day?
Press reload again inside the highlighted zone for a faster, damage-buffed reload; miss the window and the gun jams. The timing minigame is unchanged at its core.

The Gnasher is the Gears shotgun — the weapon that defined the series’ close-range identity. In E-Day it gets its biggest mechanical rework yet: per-shell loading that turns the reload itself into a decision.

What changed about the Gnasher in E-Day?

Two linked changes:

  • Capacity: 6 shells — down from 8 in earlier games, rebalancing the shotgun around the new loading system.
  • Single-shell reload — shells load one at a time, and you can cut the reload short to fire with whatever is chambered. No more being caught mid-animation with an empty tube — partial loads are a real option.

How does Active Reload interact with it?

The Active Reload minigame is unchanged at its core: tap reload again inside the highlighted zone for a faster, damage-buffed reload; miss and the gun jams. What E-Day adds is agency mid-load — if a Drone rushes you two shells into a reload, firing early beats finishing the full load. The tension shifts from “don’t get caught reloading” to “how much do I load before I commit?”

When should you use the Gnasher?

  • Rush defense — the counter to Locust rushes: one shell deletes a charging Drone at close range.
  • E-hole control — Locust spawn on top of you; the Gnasher clears the spawn burst faster than any rifle.
  • Post-smoke fights — when Drones blind you with smoke and push, the shotgun is the equalizer up close.

Pair it with the Prototype Lancer for mid-range coverage — the two-weapon carry is the classic Gears loadout for a reason.

Does the Gnasher appear in multiplayer?

Yes — the Gnasher is a Versus staple, and the 6-shell capacity plus per-shell reload is exactly the kind of balance change aimed at PvP. Horde Siege classes can also build around it via weapon mods. The full confirmed arsenal is in the weapon list.
